'FIGURE 31"
I pushed myself to paint this in one go. Its like running a race.. to get the colors mixed and the composition down. I recently read that the dark and light areas of a composition should be distinct from one another, in other words- the lightest note in the dark area is still darker than the darkest note in the light area. That is what I've been chewing on- but I seem to break the rules!

'POMEGRANATE'
I've been hearing a lot about the pomegranate's health benefits lately. That's good news to me because I like eating them and painting them. I was looking at the edges and at how even the deep red color is really a red-grey except in some spots where light makes a pure bright note.

OUR BARACK OBAMA
This morning I read Martin Luther King's "I have a dream speech" in the newspaper. Tomorrow I will witness, our first president of African descent, America's 44th president, become inaugurated. While there is still so much progress yet to be made in racial and economic justice, surely this a great dream come true.
